Role summary

The telemetry pipeline sits between every system that produces logs, metrics, and events and every system that consumes them. It is responsible for making sure the right data reaches the right place, in the right shape, at the right cost, without anyone having to babysit it.

Responsibilities

Bring in data from anywhere, with as little footprint as possible. Prefer APIs, syslog, streaming endpoints, and cloud-native hooks. Install software on a host only when there is no other way.

Throw away what nobody needs before it costs money. Duplicate events, heartbeat chatter, verbose debug payloads, and fields no query ever touches should be removed at the point of collection, not after they have crossed a network and landed in a billed tier.

Add context while the data is moving. Asset ownership, geographic hints, threat intelligence matches, and user identity are cheap to attach once and expensive to join later in every tool separately.

Deliver by policy. Security-relevant events to the detection platform. A complete copy to inexpensive storage for retention. A filtered slice to the observability tool. A parallel feed to the platform being evaluated. Destinations are entries in a table, not pipelines to be rebuilt.

Notice when something breaks and fix it if safe. A parser that stops matching, a source that goes silent, a volume spike from a misconfigured device. These should be caught in minutes and repaired without a ticket where the fix is unambiguous.

Keep a record. For any event, be able to say where it came from, what was done to it, and where it went.

Requirements

  • No preference for any particular SIEM, data lake, or AI vendor downstream.
  • Comfortable operating on-site through universal collectors, in the cloud, or both under a single policy.
  • Able to explain every change it makes and to undo it.

What success looks like

The security team stops rationing which sources it can afford to monitor. The platform team stops hand-editing parsers. And when leadership asks to change analytics vendors, the answer is a configuration change rather than a project plan.

That is the standard CyberAIX is built to meet.
